RULES

THE RULES OF CLEVEDON LINK

We are a club for single, separated, divorced or widowed people, from the age of 30 years upwards, who wish to meet others in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere to form new friendships. We are a self-financing social club. We are not a dating agency or marriage bureau, and  are not affiliated to any other club.
There is an annual membership fee which is payable by ALL members and is renewable on 1st October each year.

 CLUB NIGHTS

The club is administered by an elected committee who organise a programme of events, supplementary to Tuesday Club nights, including parties, meals, theatre visits walks etc., which usually take place at weekends.  Hopefully, everyone should find something of interest, and also have the opportunity of meeting new friends. There is a £1 attendance fee for Tuesday nights which entitles you to a raffle ticket for the weekly draw.

THE COMMITTEE

The Committee is elected annually and comprises up to 10 members.  Nominations will be accepted from 1st  August each year and each one requires a proposer and a seconder, together with the agreement of the nominee.  Nominees must have been a fully paid up Member of the club for a minimum of three months as of 1st October of the current year and not be a current committee member of any other singles club.  The nominee must be present at the AGM. If elected, Committee members must not be involved in the running of any other singles club.

In the event of more than 10 nominations being received, a ballot paper will be issued to all Members and an election will be held.  The proposed incoming Committee will be announced at the A.G.M. and objections to any proposed Committee Member must be made in writing stating a valid reason for the objection and signed by the objector, within 2 weeks of the A.G.M. which is held in October each year.  The various responsibilities will be decided amongst the Committee Members themselves.

In the event of more than one person electing to undertake the duties of Chairperson, a ballot of the previous year's club members will be taken at the AGM.

In certain circumstances, we would welcome a member to join the Committee for a six month period.

 MEMBERSHIP

This is open to any single, separated, divorced or widowed people, from the age of 30 years upwards. There is an annual membership fee of £20.00 that is to be paid by ALL Members and is renewable on the 1st October each year.

 EXISTING/LAPSED MEMBERS

Any Members who have not renewed their memberships and wish to attend club nights will be expected to pay £2 on the first night back and must pay the remaining membership fee of £18 on the subsequent visit.

 NEW MEMBERS

Membership for new Members is due by their fifth attendance of a club night. There will be no charge for the first night but a charge of £2.00 for each of the next three weeks with the balance of £14.00 due on the fifth Tuesday.  From March, the annual fee will be reduced on a sliding scale on a monthly basis.  New Members should not attend parties without the prior consent of the host until they become fully paid-up Members. The Committee reserves the right to refuse/revoke membership without stating a reason.  A membership record is maintained by the Membership Secretary and this record will remain confidential.

GUESTS OF MEMBERS

Members should be aware that if they bring the same guest to the club more than twice in the club year, to any event, the guest is expected to become a Member.

FINANCE

The club is financed in two ways:

1. Via the annual membership subscription. This is payable by End of November each year and is effective from 1st October.

2. Raffle income.  We would ask members to support club night and raffles as generously as they are able. In addition to the room rental, funds are used to subsidise, wherever possible, major events.

 CONDUCT

The Committee does expect everyone to dress and behave in a reasonable manner with due consideration to others.  Jeans are not to be worn at formal functions. The Committee reserve the right to refuse admission to any person and where a Member is deemed to have harassed another, Membership will be revoked.

 PARTIES

These are held in members’ homes through the generosity of the host only fully paid-up members may attend without prior invitation. Members are expected to show due consideration to the property of others and obey any smoking restrictions.  The host or a committee member may ask anyone not doing so to leave and make good any  damage.  Everyone is expected  to  bring food and drink to parties, the food is communal but the drink is for your own consumption.  The Club does have its own supply of glasses, plates and cutlery which can be loaned for events.

 PROGRAMME

We try to include a variety of events to suit all tastes and a monthly programme is issued detailing these events.  Where tickets are to be bought or tables reserved, A SMALL DEPOSIT MUST BE PAID BEFORE YOUR NAME CAN BE PUT DOWN ON THE LIST. This must be considered non-refundable and, in order to meet costs, the balance must always be paid one week before the event.
